Fingerprinting for Licensure

New applicants require fingerprinting.  Current licensees are required to repeat fringerprinting  every 5 years.   The board strongly encourages you to have your fingerprints submitted electronically via livescan instead of submitting fingerprint cards. Electronic fingerprinting is only available if performed in Nevada.  Nevada livescan fingerprint locations can be found at this link. Fingerprints can be done manually on the standard FD-258 form that can be requested by mail from the Board of Nursing or is available at most fingerprinting provider locations.
Note*  -clearance when submittting fingerprinting cards takes longer than clearance when performed electronically via Livescan.
Note **Federal law prohibits sharing of fingerprintging information.  Therefore fingerprints previously done for an employer or for another Board of Nursing are not available to the Nevada Board of Nursing.  You must have fingerprinting performed specifically for the board of nursing for the fingerprints to be used for the purpose of licensing or relicensing.

Continuing Education Requirements

All nurses must complete 4 hours of cultural competency each renewal cycle.  These 4 hours are part of the mandatory 30 hours already required by law for license renewal.

Additionally, anyone who provides or supervises the provision of emergency medical services in a hospital or primary care office is required to have 2 hours of training in stigma, discrimination and unrecognized bias toward persons who have acquired or are at a high risk for acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

You are not required to submit your continuing education credit certificates with your initial application or renewal application.  In the event that you are selected for a rando audit, you will need to show proof of completion of all of your continuing education for the most recent renewal period.

Request verification of LVN/LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner license from one state participating state  to another participating state.
